Personal hygiene is essential for keeping every part of your body clean and healthy. Your health is dependent on many factors: nutrition and diet, physical activity, physical health, personal hygiene, and more. Staying healthy requires being kind to yourself and taking care of your body. At Connecticut Coastal OB/Gyn, your health is our number one priority. We’re highlighting 5 easy tips to follow to stay healthy from the inside, out.

5 Tips for Keeping Your Body Healthy from Head to Toe

  1. Your face often goes unprotected in the winter weather; caring for it is key. Invest in a moisturizer that is formulated for your skin type and has built in SPF to use daily. When choosing a facial cleanser, stay away from face scrubs that dry out your skin’s natural oils. Instead, choose a gentle cleanser that protects your skin’s natural barrier. Brands to consider are CeraVe and Cetaphil.
  2. In the colder months, many people struggle with seasonal depression. If you’re struggling to perform daily tasks, we recommend reaching out to a therapist or psychiatrist to discuss treatment plans. Consider investing in a sunlight lamp to sit next to or work in front of to ensure your body gets enough simulated sunlight to start your day.
  3. Flu season is upon us: stock up on hand soap and always wash your hands after going out. Pro tip: keep a mini bottle of hand sanitizer on your keychain to sanitize after touching objects in high-traffic areas like doorknobs or elevator buttons.
  4. In the cold weather, make sure to exfoliate and moisturize your skin. Exfoliating first is key, then use lotion right after a warm shower to lock in the moisture. The best way to choose a body lotion? Choose a trusted brand like Aquaphor or Eucerin, and be careful of potential irritants in overly-fragranced products.
  5. When it comes to menstrual products, there’s no one-type-fits-all. Stick with what you’re comfortable with. Whether you prefer pads, tampons, menstrual cups, or other products, make sure your hands are clean when you handle them. Consider choosing products that don’t contain irritants such as scents or chemicals. When researching products and brands, check out Seventh Generation’s Chlorine-Free line, Natracare Ultra Pads, and Cora. There are also reusable products like Hannahpads and Sustain, or Thinx period underwear.
